Arrangement Notes

This collection features songs that originated from the slave population of North America in the 19th Century. Beset by trouble, sickness and backbreaking labor, these songs bear witness to the slave longing for heaven, where they might find freedom and comfort. As a musical form, the Spiritual stands as a classic expression of religious emotion. Includes: Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Go Down Moses, and more.
