This works as a great Christmas solo for flute. Play the first verse totally acapella, then have the piano join you. It is very moving. This 12th century carol may be the oldest Christmas carol still in existence. It is both Irish and English. The name is derived from a county in the south east of Ireland were it was first popularized.

I heard this sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It has an unusual but interesting chord structure. I believe it is one of the most unique and moving Christmas carols.
